‘Sham Sweepstakes’ Reported to Police

GIANYAR ~ A fake sweepstakes was reported to Gianyar Police on Monday, by a man who sent money thinking he would receive a car.

Dewa Made Arsa, 50, from Tegalinggah, Semabaung, Gianyar, reported he had sent Rp8.9 million (US$734) in three installments to a company claiming he had won a Toyota Avanza after finding a sweepstakes ticket in a bread product.

Arsa said the sweepstakes company claimed they needed money to  cover administration and the cost of sending the car.

He said they became suspicious of the company when the contact asked for them to add credit to his phone a number of times.

According to Arsa’s son Dewa Gede Subagia, 24, they had not received a positive response from police officers when they made their report.
