What can be done to improve Bali’s image?
There needs to be more discipline, especially when dealing with rubbish. I’ve seen one seller who keeps her shop very clean but throws her rubbish all over the place. The government has to be active in solving this problem – maybe by educating people about how important it is to be disciplined.
Are you satisfied with the current level of security?
Yes, I am.
Is the central government doing enough to improve Indonesia?
Not yet. They need to do more, especially in terms of the environment.
What are the challenges that lie ahead?
For Bali, its culture must be preserved and not lost, so that tourism will survive. It’s good to have a modern Bali, but people also want to see the traditional Bali. Also, the amount of vendors on the streets should be reduced because they annoy tourists.
Where’s the hottest spot in Bali right now?
Tulamben – it’s great for diving. Also Ubud, because you can get lots of things cheap there, like DVDS, music and food. (BT/AS)
