Bali Vice Governor Ketut Sudikerta asked regents and mayor in the region of Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan (Sarbagita) to seriously address the issue of garbage in the Waste Final Disposal (TPA) of Suwung.
“Handling waste in Sarbagita regions is a matter of urgency because TPA Suwung capacity is not sufficient and the impact on environmental pollution is also increasingly worse,” said Sudikerta in a follow-up meeting of waste management in Denpasar.
According to him, water and air pollution is also getting worse and waste water which is not managed properly can disrupt the mangrove ecosystem.
The condition is also worsened with an unclear of the current waste. However, he regretted the absence of the Regents / Mayor of Sarbagita regions in the follow-up meeting of waste management which took place in Praja Sabha Room of Bali Governor’s Office.
“The presence of the regents / mayor is needed in order to take decisions related to waste management measures in the future,” said Sudikerta.
On the other hand, Waste Management Unit of Public Works Department of Bali is expected to conduct a study to take over the management of waste in the TPA of Sarbagita.
To that end, the Unit was asked to coordinate with Sarbagita Health Agency business (BPKS) and Forestry Department related to the land area that will be used for TPA management that handle waste from the four regions.
Written response from regencies / city and related local government offices are expected to be received in mid-February.
