DENPASAR, Bali – Six foreign nationals have filed a police report with Bali Police (Polda Bali) against two officials of a cooperative based in Sanur, alleging financial losses from what they describe as a problematic investment scheme.
The complainants claim they were promised specific returns after placing funds into a program offered under the structure of an Indonesian koperasi—a legally recognized cooperative entity regulated under national cooperative law. According to the report, the promised returns allegedly failed to materialize, and communication with the management became unclear.
“We feel financially harmed and have not received transparency regarding the funds we deposited,” one of the foreign complainants told investigators.
The total reported losses are said to amount to billions of rupiah (equivalent to hundreds of thousands of US dollars), although the exact figure remains under verification by authorities.
The case is currently under investigation. Police are expected to question the complainants, examine documentation, and seek clarification from the reported cooperative officials to determine whether criminal elements are involved.
As of publication, the two reported officials have not issued a public statement. Attempts to obtain their response are ongoing.
In Indonesia, a koperasi is a member-based business entity distinct from licensed banks or capital market institutions. While legally recognized, cooperatives operate under a different regulatory framework compared to formal financial institutions.
Legal experts often stress that foreign investors should carefully examine the structure, licensing, and oversight mechanisms of any entity offering financial returns in Indonesia. Authorities have not yet determined whether this case constitutes fraud or a contractual dispute. The legal process remains ongoing, and all parties are entitled to due process under Indonesian law.
