US President Barack Obama will not visit Bali during his trip to Indonesia next week, an official said on Friday.
Obama is due to arrive in India on Saturday and will touch down in Jakarta next Tuesday, at the start of a visit to his former homeland that has been twice delayed due to domestic issues.
Bali had been on the US leader’s itinerary during the previously scheduled visits earlier this year.
“The president does not intend to visit Bali this time around,” Paul Belmont of the US embassy in Jakarta told The Bali Times.
He said cooperation pacts between the two countries, including a science diplomacy scheme, would be made public following talks in Jakarta.
“Details of any new initiatives would be announced following bilateral discussions during the visit,” Belmont said.
Obama lived in Jakarta for four years as a child and has visited Bali.
