Ngurah Rai Airport Celebrates Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day with Tourists

Tourists join 17th August competitions for Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day at Ngurah Rai Airport, Badung, Bali, Sunday (17/8/2025).

BADUNG, Bali – Ngurah Rai Airport celebrated Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day with a lively series of competitions and cultural performances, engaging both domestic and foreign tourists while they waited for their flights.

Airport General Manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab said on Sunday that the celebration was designed to strengthen the spirit of nationalism among Indonesians while warmly welcoming international travelers.

“This is to celebrate independence and foster enthusiasm among all Indonesians. Seeing foreign nationals participate was incredibly heartening; they even laughed and enjoyed themselves,” Shahab said.

The competitions included marble races, flag-moving contests, and ball-carrying games for both children and adults. Cultural showcases featured the Cendrawasih Dance and the iconic Kecak Dance, along with a best costume contest and souvenir distribution.

To amplify the festive spirit, the airport terminals were decorated in red-and-white themes ahead of the celebration.

“We want the momentum of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia to be felt by everyone at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport,” Shahab said. “We also hope the spirit of independence, love, and pride for Indonesia will continue to grow in the hearts of the people, while introducing nationalism to foreign tourists.”

Passengers welcomed the initiative. Hardi, a traveler heading to Toraja, described the celebration as special because it showcased Indonesian enthusiasm in front of international visitors.

“Events like this are great for fostering our sense of nationalism as Indonesians. With so many foreign tourists around, it also showcases our patriotism to the world,” he said.

Nuraimah, a passenger from Makassar, added that the activities allowed her child to join the Independence Day spirit despite being away from home.
