A joint task force conducts a crackdown on fake motorbike taxi drivers in Legian on Sunday (Oct 19).
BADUNG, Bali – Police in Bali’s bustling Legian area have seized fake motorbike taxi jackets in a joint night operation targeting unregistered ride-hailing drivers. The crackdown aims to keep tourists safe and preserve Bali’s reputation as a secure and welcoming destination.
The operation, led by Kuta Police in collaboration with Satpol PP, local authorities, and the Legian Traditional Village, began on Saturday night (Oct 18). Officers inspected driver identities, vehicle documents, and app data at key points including Padma Junction, Double Six Street, and Sahadewa Street.
Kuta Police Chief Commissioner Agus Riwayanto Diputra, S.I.K., M.H. explained that the inspection was not meant to intimidate drivers, but to ensure professionalism and prevent unlicensed operators from deceiving tourists.
“Legian is an international tourist destination — maintaining order here is about protecting both visitors and Bali’s image,” he said.
Several fake ride-hailing jackets were confiscated, allegedly used by unregistered drivers to blend in with legitimate operators. Some drivers were given on-site warnings and guidance to comply with safety and registration rules.
Authorities reminded visitors to use only verified ride-hailing apps and to avoid accepting offers from unregistered motorbike taxis. “It’s about prevention, education, and keeping the streets safe for everyone,” Agus added.
The operation concluded early Sunday morning with conditions remaining calm and orderly. Officials reaffirmed that similar patrols will continue to ensure Bali remains a safe, disciplined, and tourist-friendly destination.
