DENPASAR ~
Head of Bali Provincial Environment Agency Gede Suarjana said Lake Buyan in Buleleng Regency, experiences the highest environmental degradation compared to three other lakes on the island.
“The degradation of the environment not only in terms of sedimentation, can also be seen from the weeds population is high enough that it’s been nearly a quarter of the lake,” said Suarjana, in Denpasar on Friday.
While the other two lakes namely Lake Beratan (Tabanan Regency) and Lake Batur (Bangli Regency), according to him, is quite severe but are still below the Lake Buyan.
The amount of weeds in Lake Buyan, said Suarjana, could increase twice only in one month.
“This will result in an increase in the acidity of the lake and aquatic biota will die,” he said.
Therefore, he added, in an effort to improve the condition of Lake Buyan, his department will hold Gerdasih, Clean Lake Movement and Lestari on 10 April 2015.
“The movement will involve schools, businessmen, communities, government and other stakeholders,” he said.
