DENPASAR — The Bali shooting case involving two Australian nationals that left one man dead and another seriously injured has entered a decisive phase, as Indonesian prosecutors demanded heavy prison sentences for the perpetrators during a court hearing in Bali.
The case stems from a fatal shooting at a private villa in Mengwi District, Badung Regency, Bali, where Zivan Radmanovic (32) was killed and Sanar Ghanim (34) sustained gunshot wounds. The incident, which shocked both local residents and the international community, has raised serious concerns over violent crime involving foreign nationals in Indonesia’s top tourism destination.
During a sentencing hearing at the Denpasar District Court on Monday (February 2, 2026), prosecutors sought 18 years in prison for Mevlut Coskun (22) and Paea-I-Middlemore Tupou (26), identifying both men as the direct shooters in the attack. A third defendant, Darcy Francesco Jenson (27), who allegedly arranged accommodation and escape logistics, was demanded to serve 17 years behind bars.
“Both defendants acted as executors of the shooting that resulted in the death of one victim and serious injuries to another,” the prosecutor stated while reading the indictment.
According to the prosecution, the three defendants were proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt based on evidence presented during trial. They were charged under multiple articles of Indonesia’s new Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023), including provisions related to violent crimes involving firearms and joint criminal participation.
Prosecutors emphasized that the crime caused severe consequences, including the loss of life and a disruption to public security in Bali. The fact that the shooting occurred in a residential villa area further aggravated the offense. As mitigating factors, the court noted that the defendants admitted their actions and cooperated throughout the legal proceedings.
Court documents revealed that Jenson had been preparing logistics since April 2025, including renting a villa, two motorcycles, two cars, and purchasing tools ahead of the attack. He was also said to have received instructions from an unidentified Australian national to arrange transportation for Coskun and Tupou from Jakarta to Surabaya and onward to Bali in early June 2025.
The shooting itself took place on June 14, using a 9mm firearm. Prosecutors detailed that Coskun fired multiple shots at Ghanim, while Tupou shot Radmanovic several times. Witness testimony described the attackers wearing distinctive clothing and face coverings when entering the victims’ room.
Responding to the prosecution’s demands, all defendants, accompanied by their legal counsel, stated they would submit written defense pleas. The next court session is scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026.
