DENPASAR, Bali – The Bali Immigration Patrol has been intensified with the deployment of a special task force of 100 officers across the island’s main tourist hubs. In line with immigration law, all foreign nationals are required to present their passports and stay permits when requested by officials. Since random checks are now being conducted in public areas, tourists are strongly advised to carry their documents whenever they travel around Bali.
Minister for Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, said the creation of the Bali Immigration Patrol Task Force followed a presidential directive to tighten enforcement against immigration violations in tourist destinations. “The task force is mandated to conduct quick-response monitoring to ensure all foreign nationals comply with existing regulations,” he stated.
The task force, which began operations in early August 2025, is patrolling ten tourist hotspots: Canggu, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Sanur (Matahari Terbit Port), Benoa, Pecatu (Uluwatu–Bingin), Mertasari Beach, Kuta, Ubud in Gianyar, Nusa Dua, and Jimbaran. Officers are equipped with uniforms, body cameras, and both two- and four-wheeled patrol vehicles.
A video released by the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office showed officers conducting random checks in Nusa Dua. “One of the important roles of immigration officers in the field is to carry out random checks on foreign nationals to ensure compliance with immigration administration rules,” the office stated.
Several tourists who admitted leaving their passports at their hotels were only given warnings and not fined. However, under Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, Article 71 obliges all foreigners to present their immigration documents when requested, while Article 116 stipulates penalties for failing to comply.
The stepped-up patrol comes amid rising visa violations in Bali. Authorities have also indicated that, in the future, officers may verify payment of the Foreign Tourist Levy of IDR 150,000, although responsibility for the tax currently remains with the Bali Provincial Government.
With the new enforcement in place, officials stress that the Bali Immigration Patrol will be a routine operation, and all foreign tourists should avoid legal trouble by carrying their passports and stay permits at all times while traveling.
