Bali Governor Confirms to Refuse Geothermal Project

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika asserted that he consistently rejected the geothermal project plan or geothermal power plant in the area of Bedugul, Tabanan.

“I never approve the project to be continued so that people do not need to restless and worry about it,” said Pastika while receiving a number of prominent observers of social problems that led byProf LK Suryani, in Denpasar on Thursday.

According to him, the current electricity supply in Bali is still sufficient and provincial parties continue to look for alternative energy sources that are environmentally friendly.

Moreover, he said, currently Celukan Bawang power plant has started operating and eventually if it is in full capacity, electricity power in Bali can reach 1,200 MW.

Pastika suggested, Bali provincial government is currently planning to replace fuel power plants in Pesanggaran, Pemaron and Gilimanuk with fuel gas from previously using diesel fuel that is more environmentally friendly.

Moreover, he added, the provincial government of Bali is conducting serious talks with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in an effort to build a new power plant in the region of Karangasem so that later on there are power plants in every corner of Bali.

“If in the north there is a power plant in Singaraja, in the west at Gilimanuk, in the south on the east side Pesanggaran, now the government plans to build it in Karangasem,” he explained.

Hydroelectric power plants (hydropower) by utilizing the flow of water from the dam Titab and Telaga Waja are expected to generate enough electricity to supply power to nearby villages that is Busungbiu. In addition solar energy development is also being conducted in Bangli regency.

Meanwhile, observers of social problems Prof LK Suryani fully supports Governor of Bali. She hoped it will answer the doubts and concerns of society to the consistency of Bali provincial government to reject the discourse of this mega project.

LK Suryani also supported breakthrough that is made by the provincial government of Bali to look for other alternative energy environmentally friendly in order to meet the increasing electricity needs in Bali.
