SEMINYAK ~ Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, which will host a major global summit later this year, has met all international aviation security standards, the US Embassy in Indonesia said on Thursday.

“This is very good news for Indonesia as it prepares to host the United Nations COP-13 Climate Change Conference in Bali this December,” US embassy Charge d’affairs, John Heffern, said in a statement.

The embassy said the airport met International Civil Aviation Organisation standards and applauded the authorities here for improving security procedures.

The December meeting has the task of setting down a roadmap for negotiations that hopefully will conclude at the end of 2009 with a deal to accelerate and deepen cuts in emissions of greenhouse gases.

US law requires the Department of Homeland Security conduct security assessments at foreign airports with direct service to the United States.
