MANGUPURA, Bali – A routine traffic stop in North Kuta took an unexpected turn on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, leading to the apprehension of an Australian couple, identified by their initials CM and P. They are currently being held on suspicion of possessing approximately one gram of cocaine.

The incident unfolded when officers from the Badung Police Traffic Unit pulled over a motorcycle driven by CM, with P as the passenger. Sources indicate that CM appeared visibly panicked and was seen handing something to P. In their haste to conceal the item, it allegedly fell to the ground.

Alert officers quickly spotted the dropped item, which turned out to be two packages suspected to contain cocaine. The alleged narcotics, weighing approximately one gram, were immediately secured.

Both CM and P were promptly taken to the Badung Police Headquarters. A source within the Badung Police confirmed that the Australian nationals have been transferred to the Narcotics Investigation Unit.

However, formal questioning has been put on hold. “We are awaiting the results of laboratory tests to confirm if the two packages indeed contain narcotics and also their urine test results,” a police source stated. The decision to delay questioning is to ensure that if the lab results are negative, they would not have undergone unnecessary interrogation.

When contacted, the Head of Public Relations for Badung Police, Ipda Putu Sukarma Prakasa, stated he would confirm the details with the Narcotics Unit. Badung Police Chief AKBP Arif Batubara has yet to comment on the matter.
