APRINDO Asks Gov’t to Review Ban of Alcohol Sales

Indonesian Retailer Association (APRINDO) requested the Ministry of Commerce to review the ban on the sale of liquor with alcohol level below 5 percent in supermarkets.

“The prohibition of the sale of alcoholic beverages can damage the marketing of products trading itself. And we see that the policy should be re-examined because of the marketing of this product trade has been transparent and measurable,” said Deputy Secretary General APRINDO Satria Hamid in Denpasar, on Saturday.

The government also should provide a better explanation to the relevant community towards the Regulation of the Minister of Trade on the Control and Supervision of Procurement, Distribution, and Sale of Alcoholic Beverages.

“Another example in the tourism area, should be given special leniency because the market has been exist. If there is a ban it will actually hamper the investment climate. Many local governments ask to sell and people really want such kind of product, “he said.

In addition, the retailer has committed to comply with the regulation.

First, the placement of alcoholic beverages group A is placed in a special place and separately with other products and given a sticker or sign shows buyer age limit of 21 years or more.

Second, on the alcoholic beverage category A, consumers can no longer take the product itself but by the officer.

Third, consumers are required to show ID when purchases alcoholic beverages.
