About 75 dogs over nine regencies and one city in Bali has been identified positive for rabies based on data from January to September 2014.
The amount that has been recorded in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of Bali Province so the department continues to hold vaccination and monitoring or surveillance through sampling for laboratory tests.
Head of Animal Health of Animal Husbandry Nata Kesuma explained that in January – September, the highest number of rabies case was found in Jembrana Regency with 19 cases, followed by Buleleng (16), Karangasem (11), Klungkung (7), Gianyar (6), Tabanan (6), Bangli (6), Badung (2) and Denpasar (2).
The data indicating that the number of dogs with rabies has increased compared to the previous year, with a total of 44 dogs so in the near future the government will continue the mass vaccination.
He said that the highest number of dogs with rabies recorded in April 2014, with a total of 15 cases compared to January 2014 (2), February (9), March (5) May (9), June (13), July (12) , August (10).
He explained that the signs that indicated the dog is suffering from rabies can be seen from the salivation seen in animals (hypersalivation).
“In addition, usually a dog that looks quiet then became very aggressive, and scared to see the water is also a sign of a dog with rabies,” he said.
Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of Bali to focus preventing rabies in four regencies in Bali.
“For now we focus on the prevention in four regencies which are positive for rabies,” said Nata Kusuma.
These four districts are Bangli, Karangasem, Buleleng and Jembrana, while the monitoring to the other regencies and city is also continued.
