A total of 1,322 kites in Bali are ready to compete in the annual event that is held on 18 to 20 July 2014 in Padanggalak Beach, Sanur, Denpasar.
“The kite competition will be held as many as seven series in which in each series will be held for one hour,” said Vice Chairman of Indonesian Kite Association (Rainbow) of Bali, Made Yuda, in Denpasar, on Monday.
According to Made Yuda, the 36th kite festival will be divided into three sessions over three days featuring four kinds of kites including bebean, pecukan, Janggan and new creation kites followed by participants in the categories of children and adults.
On the first day, he said, at the opening on Friday (18/7) at 10:00 am 336 kites will be contested, on the second day (439 kites) and on the third day on Sunday at the closing event, 543 kites will be contested.
The organizer, he added, has determined that the maximum size of the kite up to five meters. But for the exhibition the size allowed reaches 12 meters.
For one kite, the committee drew a registration fee of Rp150 thousand for adults and Rp50 thousand for children category.
Meanwhile related to security of the competition to avoid any incidents, his side has anticipated it by installing a barrier flag between the competition area and the audience.
“We always direct the audience to stand aside. There is a barrier flag between the audience and the participants,” he said.
Earlier in the competition in 2012, he said, a boy died after falling kite allegedly because of the wind direction that was suddenly changed and the kite fell on the child.
In addition, it also appealed to the participants who come from a village or banjar to merge their kites to be taken to the location of the competition in order to avoid traffic congestion.
“We are also cooperating with police, transportation department, and local village officials,” he said.
