Bali Airport to Get $87m Upgrade
TUBAN, Bali ~ Plans are being drawn up by the authorities to triple the size of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport as it groans under the weight of increasing foreign tourist arrivals and a flood of domestic travelers amid a boom in budget-airline travel in the country.
The project, which is already underway with the opening in April of a new exit gate, is estimated to cost Rp800 billion (US$87.4 million), and will see the airport expand to 35,000 square meters, or three times its current size, and include a new domestic terminal, general manager of airport operator Angkasa Pura I Adi Ngadiri told the Bali Times in an interview this week.
