Java Rocked by Another Quake

JAKARTA

A moderate 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck off Java on Wednesday but there were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warning was issued, seismologists said.

The quake struck at 7:13am, 36 kilometres northwest of Ujung Kulon, West Java, at a depth of 10 kilometres, the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency said.

“The shaking was felt in many areas, including Jakarta, but the quake was not damaging,” agency technical head Suharjono said.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck West Java on Tuesday evening. There were no known casualties or damage.
