DENPASAR ~ Students and others staged a peaceful demonstration last weekend in support of the Palestinian people.

The demonstration, in Puputan Square, Renon, condemned Israel’s “Zionist attacks” on Palestinians and called for “moral and material” support for the Palestinian people.

Udayana University student and rally coordinator Andar said Israel’s actions against the Palestinian people were barbaric and not only were Palestinian protesters being killed but Israel was denying communities access to water supplies.

Rally organisers handed out literature urging people to help save the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Islam’s third most holy shrine, which they said Israel would destroy.

Police monitored the demonstration, held on Saturday afternoon.
