Celebrity Chef’s Brother Arrested

DENPASAR ~ The brother of British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been arrested for possession of heroin in Bali, police said.

Ronald Watson Ramsay, 39, was arrested carrying a small amount of heroin while out shopping earlier this month, Denpasar Police spokesman I Gusti Gede Suryasa told reporters.

“We have had suspicions about this man for long time and we have recently received information (about him) from residents,” added Suryasa.

Police said Ronald, who was carrying just 0.1 grams of heroin when he was arrested on February 12, was the brother of the world-renowned chef. He has been in custody since his arrest.

The elder Ramsay told British media over the weekend that his brother has long had a drug-addition problem.

Indonesia has traditionally handed down stiff penalties for drug traffickers and users, and has 35 people on death row for narcotics offences.
