Corrupt Official Ordered Back to Jail

SEMARAPURA ~ A former transport chief in Klungkung regency, Made Budiarsa, and two other co-defendants in a corruption case involving diversion of funds from projects in the regency’s 2007 budget, has been ordered back to jail on appeal by the Bali prosecutor-general.

Budiarsa, originally from Penebel, Tabanan, had been released after serving five months in jail following his conviction for misappropriating Rp64 million (US$6,429).

The Supreme Court in Denpasar agreed with the prosecutor-general that Budiarsa should serve seven months and pay a fine of Rp50 million ($5,220), in default two further months’ jail.

Similar orders were made against Made Suardyana, a contractor, and A.A. Gede Sarwa Damana, a construction supervisor.
