SERANGAN ~ Denpasar Major Puspayoga and other local officials attended a turtle-releasing event at Laguna Beach on Serangan island on Monday in which 100 hatchlings of the endangered species were released into the sea.

The release was coordinated by the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre, a WWF supported conservation group opened last year and tasked with preserving turtles in Bali and eradicating once-rampant illegal trade in the docile marine creature.

More releases of hatchings are planned for later in the year.
