Baby Elephant Born at Safari Park

TEGALLALANG ~ A baby Sumatran elephant was born at the Taro Elephant Safari Park on Sunday, an official said.

Park manager Dedi Ramlan said the 70-kilogram, 80-centimeter-tall female named Jegeg (beautiful) was born naturally at 2pm without the help of a veterinarian.

“This is the first time a baby has been born here. Jegeg has taken the number of elephants at the park from 27 to 28.” Dedi said.

He said the parents of the baby, Seng Wong and Fatimah, had been mated since 2007, and everyone at the park was ecstatic they had finally been successful.

According to Dedi, Fatimah would now be supplied with extra nutrients to breastfeed her baby, through high-protein nuts and vitamins from various natural sources.
