Alleged Embezzlement Reported

SEMARAPURA ~ A group of customers of the Dharma Arts Cooperative Agency went to Klungkung Police office last Wednesday to report alleged embezzlement at the agency.

At least 45 customers claimed they were affected by embezzlement committed by agency employee Ni Nengah Yuliari.

According to police, total losses reported by customers totaled Rp300 million (US$30,000).

According to one customer, Nengah Suarta, he went to withdraw interest accumulated in his account and was told it was not there.

He said that Yuliary, a money collector, promised the money, but never delivered.

He said amounts deposited were often recorded as much less than they actually were.

“My son deposited Rp300,000 but it was recorded as Rp30,000,” Suarta said.

Police said 45 unhappy customers visited Yuliary, but realized they had no contract so they went to the police office to discuss their options.

Police said Yuliari had been taken to the police station for questioning.
