BULELENG, Bali — A 27-year-old Slovak tourist suffered a broken right arm after a truck collided with the car he was travelling in on the Singaraja–Gilimanuk highway in North Bali on Thursday.

The crash happened at around 10:10 a.m. near KM 68.1 in Pejarakan Village, Gerokgak District.

Police said the truck was travelling from west to east when it allegedly experienced a braking problem while descending a slope and struck a Daihatsu Xenia coming from the opposite direction.

The car was driven by I Dyono Avriandi, 36, and was carrying two foreign passengers: Martin, 27, from Slovakia, and Lina Annika, 24, from Germany.

Martin suffered a fracture to his right arm and was initially treated at Gerokgak II Community Health Centre before being transferred to Kerta Usada Hospital in Singaraja for further medical care.

Police said Lina Annika and both drivers were not injured.

The impact caused extensive damage to the Daihatsu, while the truck overturned on the road. One local report said the truck was carrying soil at the time of the crash.

Buleleng Police spokesperson First Inspector Yohana Rosalin Diaz said the initial assessment suggested a braking failure may have contributed to the collision, but investigators were still working to determine the exact cause.

Police officers attended the scene and carried out an initial investigation, while the truck driver was also questioned as part of the inquiry.

The road was reported to be dry and visibility clear at the time of the crash.

Authorities have not announced any charges or named a suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.
