DENPASAR, Bali — A 30-year-old Belarusian national has gone on trial at Denpasar District Court over allegations involving 483.5 grams of marijuana and 33.69 grams of cocaine.
Hleb Saroka appeared for his first hearing on Tuesday, October 6, where prosecutors outlined charges accusing him of unlawfully possessing and controlling Category I narcotics.
Prosecutor Finna Wulandari said Saroka was charged under Article 609 paragraph 2(a) of Indonesia’s Criminal Code in conjunction with Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments.
He was also charged under Article 111 paragraph 1 of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, in conjunction with the Criminal Code and the 2026 criminal adjustment law.
According to the indictment, the case began around two weeks before Saroka’s arrest, when he was contacted by a person identified as EGOR, who authorities say remains wanted.
Prosecutors said EGOR told Saroka that a package would be sent to him.
Saroka then allegedly provided the address of another person, identified as Ali, and informed him that a package would arrive there.
On April 6, at around noon, Saroka was told that the package had arrived.
He then allegedly asked for it to be left at the reception desk of a hotel in Jimbaran, South Kuta.
At around 7 p.m., Saroka arrived at the hotel to collect the package.
Police officers from Denpasar Police, who had reportedly received information from the public about a suspicious delivery, arrested him at the location.
When officers searched the package, they allegedly found seven packets containing dried plant material suspected to be marijuana.
The material was packed inside two used coffee wrappers and five paper coffee packages, according to prosecutors.
Police then searched the place where Saroka was staying on Jalan Langui Kauh in Ungasan, South Kuta.
During the search, officers allegedly found a plastic packet containing white powder hidden inside one of Saroka’s Adidas shoes.
Forensic testing later confirmed the substance was cocaine.
Authorities recorded the marijuana at a net weight of 483.5 grams, with a gross weight of 525.8 grams, while the cocaine had a net weight of 33.69 grams and a gross weight of 34.56 grams.
Bali Police forensic laboratory tests also confirmed that samples of the dried leaves, stems and seeds contained marijuana, classified as a Category I narcotic under Indonesian law.
The white powder was confirmed as cocaine, also classified as a Category I narcotic.
Prosecutors also said a urine test found Ecgonine Methyl Ester, a metabolite associated with cocaine use.
Saroka has not been convicted, and the allegations remain subject to the ongoing court proceedings.
