BADUNG, Bali — Bali immigration authorities detained three foreign nationals suspected of misusing their stay permits by performing as DJs at a nightclub in Canggu, while a fourth foreigner was found to have overstayed her visa by 402 days.

The four foreigners were detained during a joint operation on Thursday night, Sept. 24, according to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office.

The three men were identified by their initials as MSI, an Egyptian national, and EZM and AA, both Russian nationals.

“Three foreign nationals detained are suspected of misusing their stay permits by performing as disc jockeys at a nightclub in Canggu,” Ngurah Rai Immigration chief Muhammad Novyandri said.

MSI held a Visa on Arrival, while the two Russian nationals held a Visa on Arrival and an investor Temporary Stay Permit (ITAS), respectively, according to immigration authorities.

A Nigerian woman identified by the initials PGA was also detained during the operation after authorities found she had overstayed her visa by 402 days.

All four foreigners are undergoing further examination of their stay permits and immigration documents at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office.

The operation involved the Bali regional immigration office, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Military Police, municipal police and Denpasar Police.

Novyandri said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to ensure foreign nationals comply with the conditions of their stay permits.

“Strict supervision is not merely about enforcement, but also ensuring every stay permit granted by the state is used for its intended purpose, creating a safe and orderly environment for residents and tourists in Bali,” he said.

The latest operation came a week after immigration authorities detained 13 foreigners during raids in Canggu, Seminyak and Umalas on Sept. 17.

Twelve women detained in that operation were suspected of misusing their stay permits to engage in prostitution arranged through WhatsApp, according to immigration authorities.
