BADUNG, Bali – A video showing a foreign man allegedly assaulting a motorcyclist on the Canggu-Tanah Lot road in Munggu, Mengwi, Badung, Bali, has gone viral on social media, prompting police to investigate the incident.

The man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred, according to information gathered by police.

“After the video went viral, officers from the Mengwi Police immediately followed up by visiting the scene. They have also taken a statement from a witness who owns a nearby food stall,” said Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, a public relations officer with the Badung Police, on Tuesday (September 1).

According to the witness, identified by the initials SF, 22, the incident took place on Sunday afternoon (August 30).

The incident reportedly began when a foreign couple, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, were travelling east along the road. The pair were later confronted by the victim, who was riding along the same road.

The couple then reportedly stopped in front of the witness’s food stall and confronted the motorcyclist, allegedly because he had hit their motorcycle.

An argument followed, during which the male foreign national allegedly struck the victim.

“The foreign couple stopped in front of the witness’s stall and confronted the victim because they allegedly believed he had hit their motorcycle. An argument then broke out, followed by the foreign man allegedly hitting the victim,” Ayu said.

The altercation was reportedly broken up by another foreign national who happened to pass the scene and intervened to help the victim.

After the incident, the alleged perpetrator and his female companion reportedly left the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and identify both the alleged perpetrator and the victim.

“Officers from the Mengwi Police are still conducting further inquiries to identify the individuals involved. Checks are also being carried out to establish the full chronology of the incident,” Ayu said.
