Belarusian Tourist Dies While Snorkelling in Bali

KARANGASEM, Bali — A 32-year-old Belarusian man died after disappearing while snorkelling at Bloo Lagoon Beach in Padangbai, Karangasem, on Monday (Aug. 24).

The victim, identified as Samuseu Yauhen, arrived at the beach with a Belarusian woman, Marmuzevich Anastasiya, at around 5 p.m., according to Karangasem Police spokesperson Ipda I Nengah Artono.

Yauhen then entered the water and began snorkelling.

About 30 minutes later, Anastasiya, who was on the shore, could no longer see him in the water. She alerted a local resident, who then informed the local hamlet chief and requested assistance.

Residents began searching for Yauhen using a small boat.

At around 6:10 p.m., they found him floating in the waters off Bloo Lagoon Beach. He was brought ashore at Padangbai, near the Setre of Padangbai Traditional Village, around 6:20 p.m., before being taken to Manggis I Community Health Centre.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether any criminal elements were involved.

“An investigation is still underway to determine whether there was any criminal offence involved in the incident,” Artono said on Thursday (Aug. 27).

Police have questioned several witnesses and are coordinating with the Consulate of Belarus to contact the victim’s family.

The investigation remains ongoing.
