BADUNG, Bali – A Russian man has reported to Bali Police that he was kidnapped, assaulted and forced to hand over access to his cryptocurrency accounts during an alleged 30-hour ordeal in southern Bali.
The 41-year-old victim, identified only by the initials AI, told investigators the incident began after he finished work at Hedonist Restaurant on the night of July 2.
According to Bali Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Ariasandy, the victim said a black vehicle blocked his path on Jalan Uluwatu at around 9:35 p.m. Two masked men then allegedly forced him into the vehicle.
“The two masked suspects handcuffed the victim using plastic restraints and covered his head,” Ariasandy said in a statement on Thursday.
The victim told police he was taken to a two-story building and held in a room that resembled a prison cell for about 30 hours. During that time, he alleged he was repeatedly punched and kicked while the suspects demanded the password to his cryptocurrency account.
Police said the suspects also allegedly took the victim’s mobile phone and the keys to his villa before entering the property and seizing another phone believed to contain credentials linked to his cryptocurrency account.
The victim said he was released near Udayana University Hospital on Jalan Prabu Udayana in Jimbaran at around 4 a.m. on July 4. He then sought treatment at the hospital’s emergency department.
“The victim was abandoned near Udayana Hospital and immediately received treatment at the emergency department,” Ariasandy said.
Police are still investigating the case. Officers are analyzing mobile phone location data and reviewing CCTV footage from the area where the alleged abduction took place.
“We are still investigating the case. We will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” Ariasandy said.
No arrests have been announced, and police have not identified any suspects. The victim’s account has not been independently verified.
