DENPASAR, Bali – A British tourist is under police investigation after a 29-year-old Indonesian man claimed he woke up naked inside a villa in Sanur and later discovered what he believed were signs that he had been sexually assaulted.

The alleged incident took place in the early hours of Monday, June 22, at a villa in South Denpasar.

The complainant, identified only by his initials AJA, told police he had been at the villa with the British national, identified as Thomas JS. When he woke up at around 5 a.m., he found himself naked and became alarmed after noticing what he believed to be semen coming from his anus.

According to information obtained by local media, AJA confronted the British man, who denied the allegation.

The confrontation allegedly escalated when the British national grabbed the complainant’s orange iPhone 17 Pro Max and smashed it, leaving the device badly damaged. The victim estimated his financial loss at Rp34.9 million (approximately US$2,100).

Later that day, AJA reported the alleged sexual assault and property damage to Denpasar Police.

A police source said investigators are still working to establish exactly what happened, including the complainant’s condition before the alleged incident.

“We are still verifying the complainant’s statement,” the source said.

Police are expected to collect additional evidence, including witness testimony and forensic findings, as the investigation continues.

When contacted, Denpasar Police spokesperson IPTU I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said he would first confirm whether the report had been officially registered.

“If the report has indeed been officially filed and registered, it will certainly be processed in accordance with applicable laws and procedures,” he said.

No suspect has been formally named, and police have yet to announce whether any charges will be filed. The investigation remains ongoing.
