MANGUPURA – Plans for a proposed shopping mall development in the Canggu area of North Kuta, Badung Regency, remain at the proposal stage, according to local authorities, amid growing public discussion on social media.
The Badung Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) confirmed it had conducted a site inspection following widespread online speculation regarding the project. The inspection was carried out as a preventive measure to maintain public order and ensure compliance with local regulations.
The inspection was led by I Wayan Suartana, Head of Early Warning and Monitoring at Satpol PP Badung. He said the visit was conducted on January 22 under instructions from the Head of Satpol PP Badung in response to public concern.
“Following the field inspection, we received clarification from the company’s legal representatives that the mall development is still only a plan,” Suartana said on Thursday (January 29, 2026). “There has been no confirmation that the project will proceed.”
According to Suartana, Satpol PP Badung has met with the project’s responsible party, PT Asia Mas Realty, which is developing the area under the name Canggu Hill. Current activities at the site are limited to land arrangement and the construction of access roads.
“The development area covers approximately 10 hectares, and a bridge has already been built connecting Tumbak Bayuh Village and Pererenan Village,” he explained.
He added that the ongoing land preparation activities have complied with the required permits in accordance with Badung Regency regulations. However, regarding the possibility of a shopping mall, the developer has not made any firm commitments.
“They are still assessing potential opportunities. At this stage, the focus is solely on residential development,” Suartana said.
The clarification comes amid broader discussions about development pressure in Canggu, a coastal area that has seen rapid growth in recent years and increasing concerns over traffic congestion and land use.
