DENPASAR, Bali – The Bali Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Bali) has voiced concern over the rise of illegal foreign businesses in Bali, saying they pose a serious threat to local small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Many foreigners are reportedly renting local homes and rooms to secretly run commercial activities.

Kadin Bali Chairman I Made Ariandi said numerous foreigners exploit certain visa types to stay in Bali while conducting business operations that compete directly with locals.

“The presence of foreigners running hidden businesses from rented houses and rooms must be closely monitored. Their activities can seriously undermine local SMEs,” Ariandi said.

He explained that many of these foreigners arrive with significant capital, allowing them to compete unfairly with small business owners. Some are also suspected of misusing their stay permits and using inappropriate visas such as the “gold visa.”

“This issue requires firm government action. We urge authorities to establish and enforce clear regulations to control these illegal foreign businesses,” he added.

Ariandi further highlighted the importance of collaboration between local governments, entrepreneurs, and SMEs to build stronger regional economies. He pointed to Karangasem Regency as an area with strong potential for community-based growth.

He also mentioned the government’s Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program as an initiative that could boost local economic activity and create new opportunities for small businesses in the culinary and agriculture sectors.

“Solid collaboration is key to ensuring that economic growth truly benefits local communities,” Ariandi concluded.
