WEST LOMBOK – Two men, SU (34) and HR (30), have been named suspects in the case of a Spanish woman murdered in Lombok. The victim, identified as 73-year-old Maria Matilde Muñoz Cazorla, was killed inside her hotel room, and both suspects—current and former hotel staff—now face premeditated murder charges.

“They have both been declared suspects,” said West Lombok Police Chief AKBP Yasmara Harahap on Thursday (Sept. 4, 2025).

West Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Lalu Eka Arya Mardiwinata confirmed that evidence including the victim’s mobile phone and bag has been secured. The bag contained clothing, medicine, and several documents belonging to Maria, and was found at a garbage disposal site where it had been discarded by the suspects. However, key items such as her passport, wallet, and bank cards were missing.

Both suspects face charges under Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder or Article 338 on murder, in conjunction with Article 365 paragraph 4 on violent theft resulting in death. SU and HR face the maximum penalty of death.

The two are now being held at the West Lombok Police detention center, while Maria’s body remains under autopsy at Bhayangkara Police Hospital in West Nusa Tenggara.

“The autopsy has been carried out, and official results will be released in due course,” said Eka.

Maria had been reported missing since early July 2025. She had checked into Room 107 of Hotel Bumi Aditya in Senggigi, Batu Layar, on June 13, and was last seen at around 10 a.m. on July 1.

Born on September 11, 1952, she was described as having short wavy white hair, fair wrinkled skin, and a height of around 150 centimeters.

On Saturday (Aug. 30, 2025), police confirmed that Maria had been murdered. She was killed on July 2 inside her hotel room.

During interrogation, SU and HR admitted to planning the murder. They entered the victim’s room through a side window, smothered her face with a towel they had prepared, and restrained her until she suffocated. The suspects then hid her body in the hotel’s generator room for four days.

When the body began to decompose and emit a foul odor, the suspects moved it to the back of the hotel on July 6. In August, they moved it again to vacant land above the hotel in an attempt to evade police following the missing person report.

Finally, on August 24, they buried the remains, which by then were skeletal, in a shallow grave about 50 centimeters deep near the shoreline in Loco Hamlet.
