BADUNG, Bali – A British tourist deported from Bali after completing a five-year prison sentence for involvement in a crypto asset theft case.

The foreign national, identified as GLS (40), had been held at Kerobokan Prison before being handed over to Ngurah Rai Immigration Office on August 17, 2025.

“After serving his sentence at Kerobokan Prison, the individual was subjected to immigration administrative action in the form of deportation,” said Winarko, Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, on Thursday evening (21/8).

GLS first entered Indonesia in December 2020 through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, using a business visit visa, although his stated intention was for tourism. He was later implicated in the crypto theft case and convicted under Article 365 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), receiving a five-year prison term.

Following his release, immigration authorities determined that GLS had violated Article 75 of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, which prohibits foreign nationals from engaging in activities that endanger public order or violate Indonesian law.

On Wednesday (20/8), at 19:20 WITA, Ngurah Rai Immigration officers deported him via Qatar Airways flight from Denpasar to London, transiting in Doha. He has also been recommended for entry ban to prevent his return to Indonesia.

“This action reflects our firm commitment to safeguarding public order. Indonesia is open to tourists and investors, but every individual must comply with the law,” Winarko stressed.
