Jokowi Wants to Reopen Schools Mid-year as Indonesia Starts Vaccinating Teachers

Presiden Joko Widodo or Jokowi visited Jakarta State High School, SMA 70, on Wednesday, February 24. During the occasion, the president said he was targeting to finish administering Covid-19 vaccines to teachers soon, so that schools can reopen after.

In a video posted to the Sekretariat Presiden official YouTube account, Widodo said the government is prioritizing educators so that schools and universities can resume normal activities in the second semester of 2021.

Jokowi is targeting to have at least 5 million teachers and lecturers vaccinated by June.

“That way, in July when the new school year starts, everything can return to normal,” the president said.

The second stage of Covid-19 vaccination began on February 13, targeting elderlies, public service officials, market traders, journalists and teachers. During his visit to SMAN 70, Jokowi said that the vaccination is going well.
