Bali Improve Socialization on Child Protection Regulation

Bali Provincial Government continues to improve the socialization of Regional Regulation (Perda) on child protection so that people know what to do to the child.

“Efforts of socialization of child protection legislation are done in order to make the people know what to do to the child,” said Deputy Governor of Bali, I Ketut Sudikerta, in Denpasar on Friday.

He said Bali had followed up Presidential Instruction (Inpres) concerning the National Movement Against Child Sexual Abuse issued on June 11, 2014 by former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

However, Bali provincial government also has issued a regulation on the protection of children which continuously socialized in the respective regencies and city.

Therefore, he expected the law that has been drafted by the provincial government of Bali to be a reference for the community in protecting children’s rights to protect their lives comprehensively.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Regional Parliament (DPRD) Bali I Nyoman Adi Wiryatama supports the Central Government to immediately revise and refine the Child Protection Act.

“Efforts on refinement of Child Protection Act needs to be revised so that there is no chance for certain elements to commit child abuse,” said Adi Wiryatama in Denpasar on Tuesday.

Adi Wiryatama expected a case like Engeline will not happen again and violence against children can be suppressed. “We will try as soon as possible together with other members to propose the revision on the Child Protection Act,” he said.

In addition, it also a form of DPRD Bali in supporting the process of Engeline case, and will oversee the case to its end.

He appealed to the public if not ready to adopt a child, to think it carefully so that such kind of incident will not reoccur. According to him, due to the tragic things happened to Engeline resulted on negative impact on Bali’s reputation nationally and internationally. “I deeply regret this incident.” he said.
