DENPASAR ~
Bali Provincial Health Office recorded seven people died because of dog biting identified suffered rabies, from January to June 2015.
“We noted there were seven who died from rabies, and this is an extraordinary incident (KLB), considering last year rabies cases had dropped,” said Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office, Dr. Ketut Suarjaya, in Denpasar on Sunday. Currently, the report of dog bites cases in Bali, the average victim reaches 110 to 120 people per month, so it is a concern for Bali Provincial Health Office.
He said, in 2010 deaths from rabies in Bali reached 82 people. “In the year 2012 there had been a lowering of cases died of rabies,” he said.
Then, in 2013 death from rabies was only one person, three cases in 2014 and January to June 2015 has recorded seven people who died. “Since 2008, cases of rabies in Bali so far are an extraordinary event (KLB),” he said.
In addition, his side also received reports that 13 cases of dog bites happened in Buleleng Regency, Bali, so he appealed to those victims who have not seen the signs and symptoms of rabies to go to the service center to get rabies vaccine (VAR). He admitted that the supplies of anti-rabies vaccines (VAR) begun to decrease, but the emergency stock is still available in four regencies, but when the dog bite cases continue to rise, the supply certainly will not be sufficient.
Therefore, he expected Biofarma as the winner of the e-catalog to be consistent to prepare VAR, because currently only given 10 thousand vials.
“Initially we ordered 85,026 vials, but Biofarma promised to meet 50 thousand at the end of May. However, it was revised to 10 thousand, so we wrote it down to the LKPP and the Ministry of Health,” he said.
