Bali’s Culture and Custom Have Important Role to Desist IS Effect

Bali Police Chief, Inspector General Ronny Sompie stated that cultures and custom of Balinese people is able to counteract the influence of strong ideology of the Islamic State (IS).

“The kinship, culture and custom built from the grassroots have built awareness and sensitivity to anything that could disturb the security in Bali for example the IS,” he said in Denpasar.

According to him, the power of customs and cultures in Bali became a valuable asset and exemplary to counteract the external influences that compromise the security of the region and the country.

That strength as well, he said, becomes the main thing for the island as the world tourist destination.

He revealed that security is becoming an important factor for the tourism industry which is the main backbone of the economy in Bali.

“Police are very aware of the participation of all elements of society, including strong Balinese customs so that we can keep it together,” he said.

Ronny admitted that until today his party has not seen IS entering the island nevertheless he asked the public to inform when there is an indication of IS issue in Bali.
