DENPASAR ~

Head of Institute of Public Administration (LAN) Prof. Dr. Agus Dwiyanto expected Bali to be a training center for leaders in the country who deals in the field of tourism and creative economy.

“In future developments, we hope Department of Tourism in province, regency, until echelon II in ministries and institutions to join leadership training in Bali, because Bali has advantages in the field of tourism and creative economy,” said Agus when he gave a speech at Education and Training (Diklatpim) in Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday.

According to him, the tourism industry will thrive remarkably if it’s developed properly, as in Thailand, especially at this time ahead of the implementation of ASEAN Economic Community.

“In Thailand, the tourism industry remain outstanding even though there is growing political conflicts,” he said.

In fact, he added, there are also civil servants that already learned Indonesian, while Indonesian people still hassles in using English moreover Thai language.

Therefore, Agus expected the leaders in Indonesia should be able to be a leader of change that they can seek, formulate and find solutions to problems. Unfortunately, many officials are afraid to make decisions and let the problem occurs.

“Leaders of change must be able to respond public expectations and then make improvements,” he said.

Agus holds, if the leaders fail to respond to public expectations, the impact causes the loss of public confidence.

“The dynamics in the society is so fast, while the dynamics of bureaucracy is slow. If the gap is getting bigger, then the bureaucracy will lose the trust from the community,” said Agus.
