Tourism Minister Arief Yahya has urged the media to contribute to the development of the tourism sector in Indonesia.

“I hope the media plays an important role in the development of the tourism sector in the country,” he said at Salak Hotel here on Tuesday.

Yahya added that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had set tourism as the leading sector to be supported by all parties, including the media.

According to him, the media plays a significant role in the promotion and dissemination of information on tourism in Indonesia to societies across the world.

“I hope the media broadcasts content that is more pro-tourism, especially with regard to infrastructure, accessibility, connectivity, activities, facilities, hospitality, and market preferences,” he pointed out.

Moreover, the tourism minister also affirmed that he would implement a strategy based on branding and advertising that would involve the media to promote and boost the tourism sector in the country.

Therefore, he has urged the media to market the Indonesian tourism brand, Wonderful Indonesia.

“I invite the media to contribute to achieving the target of social welfare through the tourism sector,” he remarked.
