Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (BI) Bali Province encouraged cashier on duty at shopping centers to join national movement of non-cash to avoid the use of counterfeit money.
“We ask the support for the program of national non-cash movement. When a customer is about to pay, firstly they should be requested to use of electronic money,” said Chief Representative of Bank Indonesia in Bali, Dewi Setyowati in Denpasar on Tuesday.
According to her, the cashier is expected to recommend such electronic payments via debit or credit card, including the use of electronic money that has now been published by four banks.
Electronic money is issued by the state’s banks namely BNI, Mandiri, BRI and one private bank that is BCA.
Dewi explained that during 2014, it was found that at least 4,361 pieces of counterfeit.
While at the period of January to March 2015, the central bank discovered 1,400 pieces of counterfeit, mostly in denominations of 50,000 and 100,000.
“Counterfeit money is difficult to be differentiated, so close to the original one like the safety yarn and ink,” she said.
In addition to avoid counterfeit money, non-cash movement also makes transactions become more effective and efficient and avoid criminal actions such as robbery.
BI in the near future will launch “one day no cash” which is planned to be held on 23 April 2015 in a shopping center in Tiara Dewata, Denpasar as a first step of the use of non-cash transactions.
