15 Types Culture in Badung are Almost Extinct

A total of 15 types of culture in Badung, Bali, are almost extinct due to lack of interest of the younger generation to continue the heritage of art and culture, according to Head of Culture Division of Badung, Ida Bagus Anom Basma.

“A number of cultures that are almost extinct largely a sacred art that can only be performed or used in certain religious rituals,” said Ida Bagus Anom Basma, in Mangupura on Tuesday.

According to him, cultures that are almost extinct are Baris Kraras dance, wayang wong (human puppet), and a number of other sacred culture. The main factors of the cultural extinction due to lack of interest of younger generation to learn and preserve the culture.

In addition, due to globalization that many young people are affected by it and leave their culture that has become a heritage since ancient times. Thus, Badung regency government has allocated Rp25 billion fund to support art development.

The budget is used to support facilities in development of arts and culture, for example clothes for dancers, procurement of musical instruments (gong), or other supports. In addition, they also conduct regular monitoring to assess the development of arts and culture in each areas of the richest regency in Bali.

“The data has been there all, so we can map the progress in every area,” he said.
