Bali still Lacking Mandarin Guides

DENPASAR ~

Chairman of the Chinese-Indonesian Social Association (PSMTI) Bali Hendra A Wasita said that Mandarin guides is still lacking in Bali compared to the number of Chinese tourists visiting the island.

“Based on data from  Bali Tourism Office and our observations, that is still relatively small number of Mandarin guides compared to the number of Chinese tourists visiting Bali that reaches hundred thousands of people, while the guide is still dozens of people,” said Hendra on the sidelines of the 2566 Chinese New Year celebrations in Kuta, Bali, Saturday night.

Therefore, he said, the government and related agencies such as Indonesian Guides Association (HPI) Bali, to encourage local people who are interested in becoming Chinese guide to improve language skill and knowledge related to social history and local culture.

“We encourage the relevant agencies to improve knowledge and certification of special Chinese tour guides. The lack in terms of number and knowledge of Chinese guides leads to the complaint of tourists towards the guides’ explanation,” he said.

He said many Chinese guides did mistakes in delivering social knowledge of Balinese culture, so that the perception is changed.

“We cannot blame the tourists, they have studied attractions and knowledge about the culture of Bali before visiting Bali. But when they arrive in Bali, they are guided by those who are lack in language and knowledge and raising complaint,” he said.

Hendra admitted PSMTI is ready to assist local governments and related agencies to overcome the issue, such as by take part in conducting the certification for Chinese tour guide.
