Pastika Expects Gianyar hold Research on World Art Trend

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika expected Gianyar Regency government form a team of creative and innovative to examine the trend of world’s art so the area will not lose the revenue from the craft sector.

“With the existence of this team, I expect the trend of art in Bali can adjust the current world trends so that what has been produced by artists and craftsman in Bali can be sold in the market,” Pastika said in his working visit to Gianyar on Thursday.

In addition, he invited Gianyar regency government to work harder, be more proactive and responsive to the community by optimizing its potential.

He also complained about the lack of understanding of Balinese artists in marketing. “The Balinese people are experts in the field of products, good productions, but are lacking in terms of marketing. As a result, the one who gets rich is the merchants because they understand marketing and Balinese people cannot earn appropriate income,” he said.

Therefore, products made by Balinese require the power of marketing, creativity and innovation.

  1. The team established by Gianyar Regency should work hard and responsibly as examining the trend of world’s art could spend a lot of money. It needs to be explained here that Bali woodcarving itself is highly popular. The problem is how to sell the products that have been produced.

The current RI’s foreign policy is emphasizing on economic diplomacy. Diplomacy for RI means to sell local products including handicrafts such as woodcarving, batik and furniture. Bali has them all and this could take advantage of that policy. As the beauty of this island is known worldwide, the Bali handicrafts, especially woodcarving, are expected to have significant demand in the global market. Considering that Indonesian faces a tight competition in exporting handicraft, the makers of the Bali woodcarving should review their prices to make them competitive enough.

Balinese, including ones from Gianya district, naturally have ability or potential in making handicrafts. Such potential could be professionally managed and developed into bigger business like company. More young people could be trained and recruited to participate in this business. This will contribute more income for the country. This discourse is such an expensive business that the only province government could considerate.
