DENPASAR ~
Bali Provincial Tourism Office stated that the issue about the execution of convicted drug from group of “Bali Nine” from Australia does not affect tourism on the island.
“So far, there is no influence. Bali is considered as a second home for Australian. Hopefully by the “Bali Nine” case there will be no similar case happens,” said Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office Anak Agung Yuniarta in Denpasar.
Related to the case, Yuniarta expected the tension of two countries do not have an impact on tourism in Bali as tourist arrivals from Australia are always in the top position.
Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Bali Province, during 2014, the number of tourist arrivals on the island during the period from January to November reached 3,419,268 people.
Of that number, 895 069 people came from Australia or accounted for 26.18 percent of the total sum.

Australians are actually talking on media and social media that they have had ‘enough’ of Bali and Indonesia. They will be spending their vacation money in humane, less corrupt and less dangerous nations.
Unfortunately, I think that tourism will become an issue if Indonesia does decide to execute these two Australians. Clemency would demonstrate that Indonesia is a fair and just country that can take a good look at each individual case. Why would you execute two inmates who have been rehabilitated and doing positive things within the prison community? Indonesia has always been on my “to-do” list since immigrating to Australia, but I think now I’ll be watching closely to see what the president does in relation to Chan and Sukumaran. Life in prison? Yes – definitely well deserved. Death by firing squad? That’s just sad and cruel.
Hi, 35 year old male from Melbourne Australia, I would like to inform you that talk of boycotting Bali is now gaining great momentum in all forms of media.
Stone Age mentanility.
Lance there may be a short term affect, but that’s all.
The horror of the Bali bombings temporarily slowed tourism, but it recovered to the now record levels.
Bear in mind many of those commenting have never been here, or had any plans to do so.
Singapore and Malaysia have executed Australians for drug trafficking. It had little or no impact on tourism or business.
Will you cross those off the holiday list along with, for example, popular Australian tourist destinations such as Thailand, Vietnam, USA and China?
Whether it’s these or other places, be aware of the law and obey it – you’ll have no problems
We have to accept that different jurisdictions have different rules. An Australian passport is not a get out of jail free or a discount card.
For the record, I don’t agree with capital punishment.
There is a growing movement to boycott Bali in Australia, if Indonesia goes ahead with these brutal executions then Bali can expect to suffer a dramatic loss of revenue. Indonesia needs to remember that the drugs were being taken out of Indonesia by the Bali 9 not into therefore Australians were the ones that would suffer any harm from the drugs and it is Australians in their growing numbers asking for clemency.
Australians are disgusted at the inhumane treatment of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran by the indonesian Govt, they deserved to be punished for their crime, and have already served 10 years in jail but they do not deserve to be killed. Only primitive governments still have the death penalty and its usually for political reasons and any stupid fool knows it does not deter drug offences, just look at the number of people in jail for this offence in Indonesia. I am so disgusted I will never set foot in Bali or Indonesia again if they go ahead with the executions. After all they have repented, have shown remorse, are doing great work in jail and absolutely no good will come from their legalised murder. Its senseless and such a decision would only be taken by an authority and administration fearful for its own future.
This issue will impact your tourism greatly.Considering your acknowledgment of the Australian statistic, and thei love to the Balinesei and the Hindo, you better support our men and help us send the message to the president that we need to get Mercy for Andrew Chan & Myuram Sukamaran ASAP.
we are campaigning that Bali to taken out of our holidays destination if our men are killed, this is serious
Let me advise you that this issue is very serious and it has a major impact on your tourism. If our Australian citizens are mistreated and killed by your government, forget about your tourism all together. Just think about the statistics provided and we are able to influence other countries and friends worldwide, this is branding damage for your country. It’s sad, we absolutely love the Balinese but if you dont stand by us, we will not stand by you. Your culture is about Peace, love, harmony not murdering people. These guys were taking drugs out of your country so they haven’t harmed your society. Moreover, they have reformed, and they are helping your society by doing good deeds to educate people not to use drugs.
The execution of two young reformed Australian men will most definitely have a negitive impact on tourism in Bali and sadly it will be the local people who will suffer. There is a strong and growing movement in Australia and around the world to boycott Bali if the Indonesian government continues with the planed executions. Wake up Joko Widodo, if you want to fix the drug problem in your country , start with your corrupt police force.
Yes, I agree. And if the australians get killed. I would be writting to the governments in Malaysia and Saud Arabia and tell them not bother saving any of their citizens on death row there, since they obviously don’t do it for any citizens in indonesia. The Hyprocricy! And how about all that aid money we gave them for the 2004 Tsunami! And this is what we get?
Execution is unhumane and perminant and hursts the families of the dead ones. Think about it with 260 indonesians around the world for death penalty for drug trafficking, you think you can stop a Multi million dollar business?
Theres to much money in it. There will always be another gulliable mule, always!
