DENPASAR ~
Head of the Environment Agency (BLH) Denpasar Anak Agung Bagus Sudharsana said that a high population growth rate making the city of Denpasar is vulnerable to environmental pollution.
“Data of BLH Denpasar shows that until now the pollution is still occurred, has been thorough in almost every district, with varying levels of pollution,” said Chief of BLH Denpasar, Anak Agung Bagus Sudharsana on Monday.
He added that the case of environmental pollution up to now is quite high.
Contamination occurs almost in every district with a fairly high level of pollution such as excessive exploitation of ground water and river pollution, land conversion to air pollution.
The high rate of population growth is not accompanied by awareness of preserving and protecting the environment, the problem becomes a major factor.
“If this continues, not only will damage the image of Denpasar city as a tourism region, but also worsen the quality of life in society,” he said.
As a precaution, Sudharsana appealed the city government to re-maximize hygiene and environmental sustainability programs.
Explicitly sanctions for violators of the environment must be intensified and increase green open space as a buffer town.
