DENPASAR ~
The government should anticipate the needs of the community for clean water in the dry season, which is now relying on inventory in ‘cubang’ (rain reservoirs) and ponds.
“I hope the district and provincial governments could anticipate the basic needs in the district that suffer from water crisis, particularly a water crisis in Kubu district, Karangasem regency,” said Nyoman Suyasa, Local legislators of Bali in Denpasar on Wednesday.
He said that during this dry season, some villages already got the effects, such as villages in the Kubu district (Karangasem), because the water provided through ‘cubang’ is getting dwindling.
“I observe that the water supply in some ‘cubang’ provided by the government is getting less. Even the people buy water from the tank vehicle,” he said.
Therefore, he said, the government should be able to overcome the crisis of clean water for the residents, so they can meet their daily lives.
Local governments should be able to find a way out in dealing with water in drought-prone areas in the summer.
“The government should act to address the problem of clean water without waiting for community shout for it. We recommend that during dry season, there should be earlier anticipation in certain areas,” he stated.
According to him, the relevant agencies already have a map of the vulnerability of water entering the dry season in Bali. From these data, provincial and local governments could take actions to overcome the clean water crisis.
“Through the data, the analysis could be done to overcome the water crisis in areas that are considered vulnerable and are in need of clean water,” he said.
