Provincial Govt to Realize “Bali Clean and Green”

Bali Provincial Government through Environment Agency (BLH) embraced all parties to be able to realize ‘Bali Clean and Green’.

“The environment, space layout and disaster management is one of ten main priority programs in 2014,” said the Head of Public Relations Division of Bali Provincial Government, I Ketut Teneng, in Denpasar, on Sunday.

He said that the program that get fund assistance from the local budget has a goal to realize arrangement, supervision and monitoring of space layout plan to make the space laid out in order.

Besides, to conduct forest and critical land reforestation as well as to make coordination in tackling and managing disasters in Bali.

Ketut Teneng explained that from the six main priority programs, to make Bali clean and green is in the first term of 2014.

“All have been done, although the achievement is still relatively low,” he said.

The strategic activity to control pollution and environment destruction to be realized in the first term of 2014 recorded at 14.63 percent, followed by protection and conservation of natural resources at 11.58 percent.

Besides, the empowerment of institutions and legal enforcement is 7.95 percent, the utilization and planning of space layout is 12.07 percent, forest and land reforestation is 3.03 percent and improvement of officials, community and disaster management is 29.58 percent.

Ketut Teneng expected people awareness to increase caring to their respective environment cleanliness.

It is in line with the appeal of Bali Governor, Made Mangku Pastika, asking all people to have a habit of clean life and manage the waste, especially plastic waste to be a product that has economical value.

“Trash and other waste can be processed to be an environment-friendly fertilizer, so it could realize Bali clean and green,” said Ketut Teneng.

He judged that the people involvement and awareness is very important and definite in making Bali clean and green.

However, the awareness of clean life needs to be improved, including in the field of waste management, because the landfill (TPA) is always full and can’t be handled as a whole.

Moreover, many waste that are not being handled yet cause some sides of the road become an illegal landfill so it really disturb people and the surrounding environment.

“The city waste volume at landfills in Bali based on the data from BLH in a day reached 5,094 cubic meters,” he said.

Therefore, the involvement of people is really needed in handling and managing waste properly, including its processing to be environment-friendly fertilizers and products having economical value, said Ketut Teneng.
