Garuda Wisnu Kencana Construction Reach 50 Percent

Continuation of Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) masterpiece statue construction in Bukit Ungasan, South Kuta, Badung regency, Bali, has reached 50 percent since the groundbreaking on August 22, 2013.

“The GWK continuation project develops quickly. In one year, the construction has reached 50 percent,” said the GWK statue architect designer, Nyoman Nuarta, in Denpasar.

The GWK’s sculptor added that the statue logistics were shipped from Bandung, West Java, every three weeks carried by 12 trucks.

Related to the statue detail, the Nyoman Nuarta said that it could have been finished like a Garuda bird and Garuda feathers detail.

For that he is optimistic that the construction will be finished in 2016.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) statue will be one of the tallest statues in the world with a height up to 126 meters and 64 meters width with the total investment reaching to Rp450 billion.

The new GWK monument is located approximately 300 meters from the old statue that has two sections namely the main statue made of approximately 3,000 tons of copper and some parts of the statue such as Garuda crowns and jewelry will be covered with gold mosaic.

Meanwhile, the statue pedestal is a building of approximately 30,000 square meters that will be used as a wide range of facilities like a multi-purpose room as a place for international conferences, galleries and Indonesian culture museums.

In the garuda chest will be built a viewing gallery that can be used to see the view from the highest point in Bali.

GWK was first built in 1997 with shares split between the state owned enterprise, Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) by 18 percent and the private sector by 82 percent.

However, the masterpiece construction had been discontinued due to financial crisis since 1997.
